The last time he was elected president on a hot April, gaining an overwhelming majority. It was not his first experience of government. Previously, he had to leave for judicial problems. From this arose his little veiled threats to the independence of the judiciary, which for years has forced him to defend himself against corruption charges. If we add the latter to conduct a private life by many as libertine, is difficult to understand how the character has been talked about and often disputed. Despite everything, this man no longer young, has the support of about two-thirds of his countrymen. Personally, while considering the democratic expression of popular support than most of the moral judgments, however, feel the need to a higher content of true morality in a head of government. I do not believe in falling into moralistic or bigoted attitudes, if I say that a political leader must always demonstrate a high ethical and righteousness. However I understand that many voters, fully aware of the shortcomings of questionable character, they have chosen as the most suitable answer to their problems.
That this is probably true if you look through the clear results that this leader has achieved for his people. Has built nearly three million public housing for approximately ten million people (22% of the population), electricity and clean water has led to 80% housing, increased access to health and education services free of charge, has assured retroviral treatment to 60% of the approximately six million people with AIDS in his country (1) . No doubt his constituents think of him as the only one capable of addressing the many other challenges facing the government. In fact, today 24% of the population lives on less than a dollar a day, while the crime rate is among the highest in the world and the unemployment rate around 25%. Jacob Zuma, president of South Africa , then it is deserved, in the eyes of those who believed in him, honor and the burden of the high office.
Elsewhere, in countries who may define themselves more civilized, should such things happen. Even the voters of the richest countries can choose their rulers as they have shown that they can do for them. I have the impression, however, that at least one well-known case, it is hard to understand not just how many things and what the current leaders can boast of having done for the citizens. For years I hear about things a little too similar to the "sex of angels" or the "Systems", abstract concepts, as I see my country become increasingly impoverished and off. If South Africa in the tragic conditions of life are spending time with his feet on the ground, attached to real life, perhaps in our beautiful country West to prevail, at least in the voting booth, may be the attachment to virtual reality.
The political voting is not a prize for the moral virtues. It is a mandate to govern to whom it was considered better able to manage their interests as citizens. The second aspect necessarily prevail on the first: but there must be!
With an extreme act of intellectual honesty we should change the term " doing politics" in " talk politics." And between saying and doing, you know, there is always half of the sea. The same sea in which, metaphorically, and full of love , we should all throw our poor politicians.
